Islamabad: Canada and Pakistan decided to strengthen their resolve and eradicate the menace of poliovirus.

On World Polio Day, Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan, His Excellency Tarik Ali Khan, visited the National Emergency Operations Center where he was received by the Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio Ayesha Raza Farooq, alongside representatives from UNICEF and WHO.

Ayesha highlighted Canada’s consistent support that has helped Pakistan achieve a 99 percent reduction in polio cases since 1994. She praised the dedication of more than 400,000 frontline vaccinators, over half of those courageous women working door-to-door to protect children.
During the visit, the high commissioner expressed Canada’s continued commitment.

“On World Polio Day, Canada supports Pakistan in its fight to eradicate polio. I was left inspired after my visit to the National EOC and the dedication of health workers and communities. A polio-free future is within reach.”
The visit reaffirmed the shared resolve of both nations to ensure every child is protected from polio.
