Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Tariq Ali Khan, the newly appointed High Commissioner of Canada to Pakistan. The meeting was also attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary.

The Prime Minister congratulated the Canadian High Commissioner on his appointment and expressed confidence that bilateral relations between Pakistan and Canada — founded on long-standing friendship and mutual respect — would further strengthen during his tenure. He also conveyed his good wishes to the Canadian leadership.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s desire to further deepen relations with Canada, noting that the country offers vast opportunities for investment, particularly in the mining and minerals sector. Referring to the Reko Diq project, the Prime Minister said that Barrick Gold’s involvement is paving the way for growth in Pakistan’s mining industry and stands as a testament to the success of Pakistan-Canada economic cooperation.

High Commissioner Tariq Ali Khan thanked the Prime Minister and reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of agriculture, energy, trade, investment, technology, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also lauded the valuable contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in Canada, noting that they serve as a vital bridge in strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
